In his maiden state of the nation address, President Zuma took the opportunity to address the importance of the upcoming world cup. He state:
“One of the biggest infrastructure investment projects is in the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup. We have, as government and the nation at large, pledged that the World Cup will leave a proud legacy from which our children and our communities will benefit for many years to come.”
Good to hear coming from the top. Now comes the hard part eh? Building the buildings and fixing the roads is one thing. But fully leveraging the event to produce a lasting and relevant legacy will be the true challenge facing all involved in hosting the event.
